A PNR is the abbreviated form of Passenger
Name Record (PNR) in the travelling industry. PNR is a record of the route of
the passenger or group of passengers travelling together in the database of
Computerized Reservation System. The PNR is initially introduced in the airline
industry services to exchange reservation information in case the passenger
requires multiple flights to complete their journey. But now the usage of PNR
is extended to booking of railway ticket, hotel, car rentals, tour etc.
Previously we face difficulty when we think
of checking the Indian railway PNR status.
We required to go to the railway station, stand in a long queue to know the
update status of or ticket. But now, with the PNR number and with internet
facility, you can check the status of your reservation ticket, without going anywhere
by sitting at your home or office. All this become possible due to
technological innovation.
Following information is required to generate PNR:
Name of the passenger or passengers
traveling together in a group.
Details of the travel agent or airline office (It is usually the IATA code 8 digits of travel agency or airline office)
Ticket details
Route at least a portion of travel
Name of the person who provides the information to travel.

How to get PNR Status online
Just enter your 10 digit PNR Number in the
given box and hit the "Get PNR Status" button. Within a
span of time, your status will display on your desktop screen. Passengers from
several Railway zones including Southern, Northern, Western and Central can
track the status of their reservation using this instinctive interface. There are several ways
to get the PNR status including checking the PNR status online on the IRCTC site, by phone,
mobile using SMS or using the services of various travel websites.
The main problem that people face while air
and railway ticket booking is the confirmation of journey. They are worried
that whether the ticket is confirmed or stuck of in the waiting list. To
overcome this problem the Indian Railway has initiated by introducing the PNR
Status check facility, where people can check status of their tickets via
internet and avoid harassment.
